Randomising your web site

This article was co-authored by a student of mine and consolidates one of the assignment tasks in the COMP306 unit that I taught at ACU. We discuss how to extract random quotes from a text file, and random images from the file system to display on a web page. The magazine is available in newsagents in Australia and New Zealand.

Enabling your web site to generate random content can give the user an impression that your web site is being continuously updated. Many companies use this tactic to varying degrees, and in this ‘how to’, we are going to explore the use of randomly selected text and images to give the same impression for our web site.
