About Me

Professional

I am an innovative and competent IT professional with over 15 years experience: designing, creating and managing software solutions. Over 30 technical articles and conference papers published in trade journals and magazines. Experience with Devops; including configuration of LAMP stack, Ansible, Dovecot, Jenkins and linux administration.

In a previous life I was employed as a senior analyst programmer at the Australian Catholic University (ACU), where I also lectured in 2 advanced programming units. More recently I have been with the State library of NSW building applications, managing servers and setting up CI/CD pipelines.

Interests and Hobbies

Currently I don't have any interests outside of programming that I actively pursue (apart from the stuff that everyone does like movies, reading, going out etc). In the past I have played indoor cricket, outdoor cricket and squash. I did dancing for many years and became very proficient with rock n roll. Since 2006 I have been going to the gym on a regular basis for aerobics and weight training where I am pleased to announce that I am in okay shape and pretty fit.

Army Reserve

I was in the Army Reserve for 8 years and for the most part had a good time. Did lots of military exercises, drove plenty of trucks, fired lots of guns, saw lots of stuff and still managed to maintain my sanity. I even got a ride in a helicopter! All in all, the green machine was good for me, and I can thoroughly recommend it for all young men and women.

Aviation

For as long as I could remember all I ever wanted was to fly planes. I obtained my private pilots license while still at high school, passed all my aviation exams (including ATPL), wrote a manuscript on aerodynamics but unfortunately had no financial means of furthering my passion into a commercial license so I could work as a pilot. It was a harsh lesson in the life is not fair!

Website Goal

My goal with having this website is to pursue my interest in programming and showcase some of the stuff I have done. I also use it as a technical resource for a lot of the common Linux and programming stuff that I do.
